Applications for Sign Language online courses now open!

We're thrilled to be announcing several new courses for families to learn British Sign Language (BSL). Take a look below at what we have on offer families wishing to learn British Sign Language.

Upcoming online sessions

Baby and Toddler sessions (0-4 years old) 

Various dates available 

Come along and join in with our high energy themed signing and singing sessions. You’ll learn the different signs for different topics such as ‘The Zoo’, ‘A trip to space’ while having lots of fun with your little one!

Bed Time, Sign Time Family Group Course (Families with deaf young children 4-7 years old) 

Get your pyjamas on, and join our first ever 6-week online group course where you will learn alongside other families, useful signs for everyday life, taught by our experienced deaf tutors.

  • Tuesday 29 March
  • 6pm to 7pm
  • on Zoom
  • recommended for deaf young children aged 4-7 and their families.

Over the six-week, one hour sessions we will cover topics such as fingerspelling, animals, colours before we snuggle down to finish the session with a signed bedtime story.   

Families with children aged 0-4 or 7 plus, you are welcome to come along however the teaching methods used are recommended for 4-7 age group.

Family One to One Course (Families with deaf Young Children 0-7 years old)

For families who cannot join our group course, you can apply for a private family course which is delivered over six sessions via Zoom at a time convenient for you, and up to six family members can take part, meaning even grandparents and other family members are able to join remotely!

Our experienced tutors will teach you and your family how to use British Sign Language in everyday family life with topics such as mealtimes, family members and talking about feelings.

Places are very limited, and we'll be prioritising applications from:

  • Families with a deaf child aged 0–7 years
  • Those who experience communication difficulties in the home
  • Young children with language and communication concerns
  • Families with no previous experience of learning sign language.
  • Families who need additional learning support therefore the group course (above) would not be suitable

Learn British Sign Language (Deaf Young People 8-14 years old)

Started March 2022

Would your child like to learn British Sign Language (BSL) online, with other deaf young people? If so, this course is perfect for them.

On this 14 week course you will learn:

  • basic conversation for meeting people
  • numbers
  • how to discuss hobbies and interests
  • to chat about school
  • how to give and receive directions

You’ll also have the chance to do an assessment and receive a certificate.

How to take part in our online sessions

As long as you have access to any computer, smartphone or tablet with an internet connection then you'll be able to access our online events.

When you sign up online, you'll receive all the information you need about how to join via Zoom. You are also welcome to view our video and written guide.

Communication support

Please let us know if you need BSL interpreters, language interpreters or any other communication support. This needs to be requested in advance of the event.  You can do this on the booking form.
