Abi's review: There Will Be Lies

Deaf teenager Shelby's life is full of secrets and mystery. She lives with her overprotective mother, who has always said that other people aren't to be trusted. But Shelby wants more freedom. And after a road accident, things start to take a very strange turn and Shelby begins to question everything.

Read on to find out what our brilliant reviewer Abi (15) thought of this mysterious thriller.

I really enjoyed this book. In the beginning Shelby appears as a perfectly normal deaf girl who lives with her mum. But suddenly she has to run from everything, and when she sleeps she visits a fantasy world where she must save the child in order to save her world.

I really appreciated the accurate deaf representation as when people turned away from Shelby whilst talking she couldn’t lip read and so the reader also couldn’t know what the other character was saying. I think this is really helpful in raising deaf awareness and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy stories or plot twists as there were many.
