Ethan's review: Deeplight

I am Ethan, age 14. I have sensorineural unilateral profound hearing loss in the left ear, and I use CROS aids.

I am reviewing the book Deeplight by Frances Hardinge. The book is about a boy called Hark who was sold as an indentured servant - meaning he has to work with no salary. His adventure centres around his toxic friendship with Jelt and is set decades after the sea gods destroyed the world.

I think the book is for young adults who enjoy reading fantasy books. I was looking forward to reading this book because I love reading! It took a while to get into this novel. However, once I did, I became hooked. I read it on my own, during the evenings. I would definitely recommend reading it!

There is a profoundly deaf character named Selphin, who is the daughter of Captain Rigg. Selphin uses sign language to communicate and has a fear of the sea.
