Supporting the achievement of deaf children in early year settings
With the right support there’s no reason why most deaf children can’t achieve the same educational outcomes as other children in the future. Are you an early years professional who wants to know how to give them the right support?
Our one-day workshop, devised for all staff in early year settings, will help you make sure deaf children are fully included in the life of your nursery or school. You’ll learn about a range of simple steps and suggestions for deaf-friendly teaching and find out about our Supporting achievement resources. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss a range of inclusive approaches and leave the workshop with practical ideas that will benefit all children.
- Understanding deafness and its impact on learning.
- How to use deaf-friendly teaching approaches and make reasonable adjustments.
- Effective communication (including use of technology, such as radio aids and soundfield).
- Information and advice on securing effective transition from your school or nursery to the next stage of education.
Please note: this workshop is intended for those who do not have access to local education authority training support on inclusion and deaf-friendly teaching or for those who would like supplementary or refresher training.
